How compress pdf works

  1. Choose a plain PDF under 20 MB.
  2. Try a text-preserving rebuild. If that does not reduce the file, use scanned-page mode only when turning pages into images is acceptable.
  3. Compare actual byte sizes and download a smaller result. Keep your original.

Will the smaller option keep searchable text?

No. Scanned-page mode renders each page as a JPEG image. Search, copy and selection, hyperlinks, bookmarks, form fields, signatures and accessibility text are not preserved. Do not use it when those features matter. Resolution and image quality affect readability. Review the entire result before sending or printing it.

Why might the file not get smaller?

A PDF may already be optimized, or its text, vector artwork and compressed photos may not benefit from a rebuild. Fixatoo shows the actual size comparison and does not promise a percentage reduction. If no smaller copy is produced, keep the original.

Which PDFs are supported?

One plain, unsigned PDF up to 20 MB and 200 pages for the text-preserving option. The scanned-page option supports up to 50 pages to limit memory use. Password-protected PDFs, interactive forms, signatures, attachments and active content are not supported. Processing is local to your browser; the PDF is not uploaded.
