How it works
- Choose a file from your device.
- Select Remove background. Review the cutout on the chequered transparency preview.
- Download and check the result. Keep your original file.
Is this background remover really free?
Yes. Download the transparent PNG without a watermark, login or subscription. The result is limited to 2048 pixels on the longest edge to keep processing manageable on your device.
Which photos work best?
Try a product or person that stands out from the background. A clear, well-lit photo usually works better than a crowded scene. Automatic cutouts are not perfect: inspect hair, shadows, transparent objects and small details before using the image.
Keep the transparent background
Save the transparent PNG with the download button. A viewer may show white or black behind transparent pixels; place the PNG over a coloured background to check it. Converting the cutout to JPG removes transparency and replaces it with a solid background. Keep PNG when you need a cutout for a slide, product layout or design.
If edges are missing or the result looks wrong
Inspect the preview around hair, fingers, thin objects and gaps. Try a sharper original with one clear subject and more contrast from its surroundings. This automatic tool does not provide an erase or restore brush. If it removes part of the subject, keep the original and use an editor with manual masking rather than relying on the cutout.
If processing seems slow
The first use downloads about 16 MB of processing files. Keep the page open while they load. On a device with limited memory, close other large tabs or try a smaller copy of the photo. Cancel stops the current attempt; Start again clears the selected file so you can choose another.
Where does the photo go?
It stays in your browser. Fixatoo supplies the processing software and U²-Net model; your photo is not sent to an AI service. Closing this page clears working data. Your browser may cache the processing files for next time.
